Art Corner: Special Events
"Jewelry Making" with Griswold HomeCare Services New Horizons hosts various artists at the Center throughout the year, both in person and on Zoom. Expand your knowledge and indulge in fun projects you can keep forever. You never know what--or who--the Center might be hosting next! Next Session: July 2025: "Jewelry Making" with Griswold HomeCare Services Experts from Griswold HomeCare Services come to New Horizons on July 24 to teach how to make unique jewelry pieces. Learn how to easily create a beautiful work of art fit to wear or gift to a friend. All materials are provided for in this workshop. Come early and enjoy a tasty Turkey Sandwich on 7 Grain Bread, served at Noon, then stay for a delicious Dessert Social before the Workshop, also provided by Griswold HomeCare. Artist Judy Ringold demonstrates how to make seasonal bookmarks and tassels in one easy session. Come join other adults for a fun and relaxing afternoon in this FREE WORKSHOP and bring home a keepsake to use while lounging by the pool or basking in the sun. "Finding Joy in the Moment" with Rachel Hykel, MS Ed, MPH Various artists offer strategies and ideas to use the creative medium to promote a healthy attitude and strengthen one's body and mind. Last Session: December 2024: "Finding Joy in the Moment" with Rachel Hykel, MS Ed, MPH Rachel Hykel teaches how to use art as a strategy to find joy in your everyday life. Join others in this unique experience. First, discuss strategies to find joy in the moment. Then, make a collage representing your hopes and dreams. Seasonal Collages with Linda Dubin:
"Summer Memories" Artist Linda Dubin Garfield comes to New Horizons throughout the year to teach how to create mixed-media collages that capture the spirit of the current season. All materials are provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own photos, natural materials, and other mementos of the season if they wish. Last Session: June 2025: "Summer Memories" Leaves, Ribbons, Photos and more! Join artist Linda Dubin Garfield for a mixed media workshop reflecting on the Summer Season. Indulge in the memories of Summers past while making something fit to add to your home décor. "Flowers Galore!" (July) Award winning artist Carol Kardon comes monthly to New Horizons to teach introductory techniques to create beautiful watercolor paintings. Join other art enthusiasts and make your own unique creation under the guidance of a master at her craft. Carol offers simple tips and teaches easy tricks to help make your painting come alive in a fun and unique way. All materials are provided for in this FREE workshop. This time we are celebrating the glories of Summer by looking at how to make a painting of bright flowers. Learn to paint lovely images of various plants in the wild and on the table.
