About the Host: For over 40 years, John Sappington, working as an art therapist, has had to convince people that in fact they all had the potential to create wonderful drawings, if they simply open that door in their mind.  He has developed a series of easy, accessible steps to help with this process and his successes speak for themselves in the drawings of his students, as they rediscover the pride and love of art that once shone through their childhood.

NEW!!! Therapeutic Nature Drawing: "Let's Draw in the Summer Sunlight!"
in partnership with Gems at the J, hosted by John Sappington

Location:  Ashbridge House in Ashbridge Park, 1301 W. Montgomery Ave, Bryn Mawr, PA (Google "Ashbridge House in Ashbridge Park for directions)

Various artists offer strategies and ideas to use the creative medium to promote a healthy attitude and strengthen one's body and mind.

Next Session:  August 19, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM:  "Let's Draw in the Summer Sunlight!"
with John Sappington

New Horizons Senior Center in Narberth is offering a FREE Workshop in collaboration with our partner, Gems at the J, focused on rekindling a love of art and experiencing the joy of drawing in the Summer sunlight.

When we were children, almost all of us had fun drawing and making art, and we took great pride in those drawings.  But as we grew older, we frequently received the message that only a few privileged people had "the gift", "the talent", or "the special skill" to produce "real Art"...and so many of us gave up and stopped drawing altogether, slamming our creative door shut.  In the process, many of us lost something precious, as it has been proven time and again that making art of any kind improves the quality of a person’s life.

On August 19, art therapist John Sappington will use the natural beauty of Ashbridge Park as inspiration to guide interested participants through a series of fun, easy steps designed to rekindle the love of art and pride in our accomplishments that lives in every single one of us.  No matter what your skill-level, your past experience (or lack thereof), or your age, the goal is the same: to have you succeed with your creativity and imagination, to learn to SEE after many lookings, and to enjoy yourself and your art. So, let's throw that creative door wide open, and let's have some fun doing it!

The class begins at 10:00 AM on the covered porch of Ashbridge House.  The JCC will provide transportation from the JCC (9:15 AM) and New Horizon Senior Center in Narberth (9:30 AM)  for a nominal fee of $10.  Contact Rachel at [email protected] or 610-896-7770 ext 130 to reserve your spot on the bus or click the button below.)  Spaces are limited, so please register for this program as soon as you can!
