Charles (Al) Pearson learned chess from his father at age 10, eventually becoming skilled after discovering a chess book at 15, though other interests like music took him away from the game. As an adult, he stayed involved in chess, organizing tournaments and joining the Main Line Chess Club at age 60 to study with National Master Dan Heisman. After retiring from his career as a computer programmer for NASA, among others, Al taught chess in Philadelphia schools, ran the Weavers Way Chess Club, and served as a certified US Chess Federation tournament director. He shares his love of the game with interested participants every Wednesday afternoon at New Horizons, offering an afternoon of fun and learning to the whole club.

Monthly Trivia Sheet
Created by Water Ault, Available Upon Request Walter Ault, a senior with a love of random facts, offers his eclectic knowledge in a monthly trivia sheet, available at the Front Desk upon request. Posing 10-12 questions a month that vary in difficulty from easy (capitals of states) to headache inducing (who hit 4 home runs in the same Baseball game on July 6, 1986 but still lost the game?), Walt challenges individuals to plumb their memories for as varied minutiae as history events, sports triumphs, geographical landmarks, and more. Test your knowledge, show off to friends, and learn interesting new facts along the way. There's something for everyone in these monthly challenges! (And in case you're wondering, it was Bob Horner from the Atlanta Braves who hit 4 home runs on July 6, 1986.) Available at the Front Desk
