New Horizons offers various special events throughout the year.  From Book Readings, to Films, to Plays, you never know what is coming next!

Next Events:
30 Minute Presentation Around Noon: “Getting Your Ducks in a Row”: 2 Presentations, 2 Locations, 2 Times:  Tuesday, September 15 In Person at Narberth Borough Hall at 12:30 PM, AND Friday, September 18 In Person at Ashbridge House in Bryn Mawr at Noon:  Stop by Narberth Borough Hall during the lunch period on September 15, or by Ashbridge House around Noon during our SPA and Health Day on September 18, and hear a presentation on how to pre-plan your final moments with confidence.  Learn how to preserve your own wishes while reducing stress for your family and friends, and how to save money while doing it.  No need to register, just stop in, grab one of the provided treats, and join the discussion.  Everyone welcome!

Service Day at Ashbridge:  Gardening Preparations:  Saturday, September 19:  New Horizons is starting a garden at Ashbridge House and we need some help assembling the planters, boxes, and other needed materials to make our vegetables and flowers grow.  On Saturday, September 19, the Center will be open at Ashbridge House for interested individuals to grab a treat and tour the house, while volunteers from Villanova University and others work to create the foundation for our garden.   Join us in assembling our new project or just come to see the house.  Everyone Welcome!

New Horizons hosts various presenters at the Center, both in person and on Zoom.  in the past, the topics have been as varied as End of Life Planning, Making Baseball Gloves, Watching Indian Dance, and everything in between.  You never know what new and exciting topic will be at the Center next!

“Environmental Travelogue: Singapore” with Pyllis Blumberg
-- 2 Dates, 2 Locations, and 2 Times:   
Those of us who live in the USA may have learned that authoritarian countries are often corrupt and against the common good for their people.  Yet residents of Singapore, an authoritarian city-state, do not feel repressed because their government is required to look after the common good, and it is illegal to discriminate against people because of their religion. Phyllis Blumberg, who leads New Horizons’ “Protect our Planet” discussions, spent March in Singapore. On two separate days she will share photos of their modern architecture, beautiful natural spaces, and cultural artifacts as she discusses her trip.  Join her for at either Narberth or Ashbridge for an in-depth chat on the society in Singapore, and how the role of government can make or break a people.

"Weatherization" and Quizzo:  September 30 at Noon at Narberth Borough Hall, during the Small Lunch Party Exploring the Animal Kingdom: A representative from the Community Action Agency of Delaware County will be present at New Horizons to show how a home can be made cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter with little to no cost to the homeowner or renter, helping to keep pets and people safe in all weather.  Join us for this informative talk about how to reduce energy costs for disadvantaged individuals and families and indulge in an Animal Safari Quizzo game at the same time.  A delicious Rotini Pasta lunch will be served during the presentation and game.

Menu: Rotini w/ Sauce, Tossed Salad, Green Beans, Ice Cream, Animal Cupcakes (Please register for the dining part of this event by September 23.)

AARP Safe Driving (Refresher) Course:
Date and Time TBA

CHECK BACK AT THIS SPACE FOR MORE INFO LATER IN THE YEAR

All drivers 65 years and older are invited to come to this refresher course on Safe Driving taught by AARP.  The four-hour course has offered millions of drivers the skills and tools needed to drive safely on today's roads, allowing them to remain independent for years to come.  Come to New Horizons and learn the tricks and tips you need!

-- Refresh your driving skills
-- Learn about normal age-related physical changes and how to adjust to them
-- Discover proven methods to keep you and your loved ones safe on the road

-- Reduce your chances of receiving a traffic violation, getting into an accident, of becoming injured
-- Learn techniques to handle left turns, right-of-ways, and roundabouts

Available to everyone 65 and older who has already taken the 8 hour Driver Safety Course.  This refresher course offers a chance to renew your knowledge and continue to receive a discount on your insurance*

*Note: While most insurance companies do offer the discount associated with this program, it is best to contact your insurance company directly to find out if they offer it, and how to apply for it.

Various experts come to New Horizons to discuss how to navigate the downsizing process with ease, care, and confidence.  Join Realtors Anna Bumbera and Mia Bloomfield, Downsizing Expert Carrie Kauffman, Community Aide Jennifer Milani, and Mortgage Specialist Shawn Yocum and learn about practical tips and valuable resources to make the dreaded task easy, cheap, and stress free.  Everyone is welcome, and don’t forget to bring your questions!​ Come early and enjoy a delicious dish of Chicken Marsala, served at Noon.  (Please register for the lunch by May 7)
