Last Session: March 16 at 1:00 PM:  Film Screening: "Imitation of Life": Join New Horizons in a celebration of Black History month and watch this timeless classic where two mothers, from two very different walks of life, struggle to balance personal desire with the love they bear their children in a society dominated by white males.

When aspiring white actress Lora Meredith meets down on her luck African American Annie Johnson in a New York park, Annie’s daughter Sarah Jane immediately befriends Lora’s daughter Susie.  Seeing a chance for all four to prosper, Lora and Annie strike a deal, and Annie becomes Lora’s live-in housekeeper, looking after both girls while Lora pursues her dreams of stardom.  But as Lora’s career takes off, her relationship sours with Susie, who is missing her mother.  And as the years progress and racial prejudice becomes worse, Annie loses her connection with light-skinned Sarah Jane, who is desperate to leave the life of an African American woman behind, no matter the cost.  Tensions mount as choices are made, leading to both triumph and tragedy in this dramatic tale of love, prejudice, and social climbing that asks the question, is there any price too high, when you chase a dream?

Holocaust Presentation: "March of the Living"

with Sydney Wolfson

Various speakers and presenters offer their historical expertise to interested participants. Join with other history enthusiasts to learn about different pivotal moments in history and how they shaped our world today.

Next Session: May 2026:  “Holocaust Presentation -- “March of the Living””:  Two Days, Two Locations:  Last month, 8,000 individuals journeyed to Poland for the annual “March of the Living” a week of Holocaust education and memory that included a literal walk from Auschwitz to Birkenau on April 16, Yom HaShoah – Holocaust Remembrance Day.  Led by 50 Holocaust survivors, representatives from dozens of countries walked arm in arm following a trail that once meant death, transforming it into a symbol of resilience, memory, and hope.

Among those who traveled to participate in this program was Bryn Mawr native and Harriton High School Senior Sydney Wolfson.  Over a 10-day period Sydney journeyed to various locations in Poland alongside Holocaust survivor Sami Steigmann, hearing Sami’s tales of that terrible time while seeing for herself the places where those stories took place.  Now, on two separate dates in May, Sydney comes to New Horizons to share Sami’s stories with a new audience and to discuss her own experiences during this year’s march.  Join Sydney and New Horizons on May 11 at Narberth Borough Hall and on May 14 at Ashbridge House to learn of the march and its goals, to share personal tales and memories of the Holocaust era, and to reflect on the lessons learned in the aftermath of this tragic time in the world’s history and how those lessons can be applied today in each person’s daily life.

Optional Lunch at Narberth Borough Hall on May 11: Cheeseburger w/ whole wheat roll (Please call 610 664-2366 ASAP to register for the meal)
