This Month: Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy This emotional tale set in Ireland begins in the small village of Knockglen, with two best friends, Benny and Eve. Benny is the wealthy daughter of two parents who do not truly understand their growing daughter, while Eve is an orphan, abandoned by her mother’s wealthy family to be raised by nuns. The two girls are inseparable and believe that they always will be. But things have a way of changing as people get older, and eventually Benny and Eve head off together to a university in Dublin, leaving their sleepy, well-known lives behind forever. There they meet the scheming Nan and the handsome Jack, widening their circle….and bringing into it all the dreams, heartaches, and explorations of four young people on the cusp of adulthood. It isn’t long before tensions begin to mount, and lies and truths both begin to surface, forcing Benny, Eve, Nan, and Jack to all face the question of who they are, and what is most important to them in their circle of friends. |

Two rich brokers decide to engage in a bet on “nature vs. nurture,” using real people as their test subjects. Accordingly, they arrange for one of their own top people, Louis Winthorpe III (Dan Aykroyd) to be turned out on the streets and replaced by a streetwise hustler, Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy). Hilarity ensues, as each man attempts to adjust to their “new life” and learn the rules of the “game” they find themselves playing.
